POP RESIDENCE

The residence located in Kingston is owned by a couple of young professional Canberrans Tom and Jane, Tom is an art lover he likes to collect paintings and exhibit them on the living rooms, he usually enjoy having social gatherings with his friends at home and they enjoy watching movies, playing cards and drinking wine. While Jane is a professional cooker, she likes to prepare food for Tom and his friends. Sometimes Jane enjoy inviting her friends the apartment and spend time cooking and having drinks. In the days when the couple do not receive friends both enjoy reading a book and seating on the sofa. as they enjoy reading very much I provided one sofa in front of the tv, and another one facing the view to the lake.

The proposed design of the apartment respond to the needs of the its habitants,  has 3 social areas the kicthen, the living, the dining room and the balcony, (the rooms and toilets are out of my scope), The kitchen is provided with a terrazzo benchtop and an electric cooktop so the woman can talk with her friends while cooking and make the experience more enjoyable. Extra storage on the top of the cupboards are provided so they can use to store other belongings that are taking space around and keep the space tidy and organized. The living and dining areas are connected, they provide different seating options and a balcony is fitted with a barbeque grill for outdoor cooking.

POP RESIDENCE

About the design concept:

The pop culture is attributed to disadvantaged social classes, as opposed to the culture of the elites considered as official culture, popular culture originates in response to official culture, since both represent different social sectors, as well as different tastes and interests. Women, African Americans, Native Americans, gays andlesbians and other marginalized people continued their fight for equality. Popular culture is characterized by being a product fundamentally created and consumed by the popular classes, it was characterized by using images and objects from popular culture taken from the mass media (advertisements, magazines, comics, cinema) or from everyday reality. Popular culture in the 70's can mean anything from the rock‐and‐roll group Kiss, whose lead singer breathes fire on stage, It could mean invasion of American Life, particularly its campuses and airports, by Eastern religion, It can mean feminism and the cultural reaction to feminism, whichcan be found in the rape fantasies that decorate numerous pop‐music album covers. The center of popular culture in the 60's, which (to use a little shorthand) was formed by the civil rights movement and the Beatles, was youth and rebellion. This period of time was characterized by the hippies and the freedom., women,African Americans, Native Americans, gays and lesbians and other marginalized people continued their fight forequality. The pop culture is rebel, it fights again system breaks rules and customs. Its repellent and dark. It includes marginated people such as Afro-Americans, LGTB, Indigenous, it defends the freedom, gender equality, is the celebration of diversity, this design will create a contrast of texture, every thing is opposite, it is a luxurious apartment that breaks all the rules, a new perspective, a new challenge. It is exciting, it is freedom. Finishes will be bold, polish materials with row material, it will have a highly saturated colour palette, high gloss meets raw and dark, it will detonate opposite concepts.
