This project enabled strong documentation skills and an understanding of the single Dwelling Housing Development Code. A lot of consideration was put into spatial plan and the understanding of the living patterns of its habitants as the existing dwelling did not accommodate the complex social requirements of the family. All the design work complied to the requirements of the NCC and any relevant Australian Standards. This project required an understanding of the outside camping living patterns of indigenous people and adapt it to the contemporary ‘European’ social customs and living arrangements.
Emma and James parents of a young daughther will receive two of James’ teenage brothers, Steve and Luke, are moving from the remote Tjuntjuntjara Community (1400km east of Perth) to Canberra and they wanted to extend their house. The proposed layout allowe the young daughter to live close to the young males and provide her with temporary routes of scape, sometimes she may prefer to avoid direct contact with them due to cultural circumstances.
